Jacks and I enjoyed watching this film adaptation of Jane Austen's "Persuasion". In my opinion, this version is far superior to other productions. Made for British television and originally screened by the BBC in April 1995. The script and the acting are brilliant, and as a film its quality is very good. The main actors may look a little bit "old" at first glance, but they quickly grow on you. I love Ciarán Hinds. Starring Amanda Root as Anne Elliot, Ciarán Hinds as Captain Wentworth, Sophie Thompson as Mary Musgrove, Corin Redgrave as Sir Walter Elliot, Victoria Hamilton as Henrietta Musgrove, Fiona Shaw as Mrs. Croft, and Susan Fleetwood as Lady Russell.

persuasion is my favorite jane austen novel, because the romance is deeper and stronger than the other books. I also like how the heroine is older and more mature. it's all so understated and beautiful!

I thought Elizabeth should be beautiful? But she's not so beautiful here. I think I have to read the novel further. :)

I love this version, so atmospheric and sets the mood of Anne when she has withdrawn herself from life

Love this book and this version of it. It is way better than the 2007 version. i also like the book a lot better than Pride and Prejudice.

Anne's sister Mary is a po-faced, skinny whiney rat-bag... And 'I should not like to know her better at at all...' Mrs Clay is 'on the make' after Anne's father and her Dad is a vain.pompous ass... He makes me so angry, in his treatment of Anne... BUT I have read the book so I know the less deserving get their cum-uppance... :0)x

The most romantic Austen book by far. This is certainly the best adaptation too. Thanks for posting!

@wackycheez I think Jane Austen always did that to all her leading ladies with the exception of Emma. Elizabeth bennet was also supose to be rather plain. . .
